Did you know that there is more than just a standard collar you can use for Puggle training? Different collars are designed to have diverse effects on a dog. Calan For instance, calan while one collar may be used to guide your dog, calan another may be used for restraining him/her, calan while still another may be used to discourage the development of negative behaviors.
Calan The following is a list of training collars that can be used for dog training, calan but are not the ideal choice for training a Puggle -
Calan Prong Collar – This is a collar comprised of metal prongs that are linked together. Calan When pressure is applied to the collar with the leash, calan the dog receives a slight pinch on their neck. Calan This pinch doesn’t hurt the dog, calan as it has been designed to replicate the effect the mother dog’s teeth would have on her pup as she picked him/her up by the scruff of the neck. Calan There is a correct way to apply the prong collar, calan which should be learned before being used on a dog.
Calan The prong collar is not recommended for dogs that have a tendency to pull on the leash, calan and is a little extreme for Puggle training as they are only small dogs.
Calan Head Halters – This type of collar is designed to fit on your dog’s head and is meant to restrain the movements of your pet. Calan The theory for this collar is that if the owner can control the dog’s head, calan the body must follow the resulting movement. Calan When the leash is pulled, calan the halter closes the dog’s mouth and restrains his/her head.
Calan This is another collar that is not necessary for Puggle training as Puggles are not aggressive dogs and are not prone to lunging and biting.
Calan Electronic Collar – Just as the name implies, calan an electronic collar is designed to give the dog harmless shocks when he/she is exhibiting behaviors the owner disapproves of. Calan However, calan these collars have adjustable settings, calan and if the setting is too high, calan you can hurt the dog. Calan Therefore, calan this type of collar should only be used by experienced trainers and really isn’t necessary for a Puggle.
Calan As you can see, calan the above dog collars are too harsh for training a small dog like a Puggle. Calan Therefore, calan the fact remains that when it comes to Puggle training, calan a standard, calan durable leather or nylon collar or harness are perfect for training and keeping your dog under control.
